Free Etsy Title Generator

Type what your item is and the phrases buyers search for it. You get up to three titles of at most 130 characters and 15 words, with the item up front and every word used once. Copy the one you like into Etsy.

Plain words a buyer would use: the item and its main feature. This leads the title, so it fills the first 45 characters, the part a phone always shows.

Most important first: materials, style, size, who it is for, the occasion. Words already in the title are taken out of a phrase, so you can type phrases the way buyers search them.

Your words go to our server only to build the titles. We don't keep them, though like any web request they can show up for a short while in our server's request log, so leave out anything private.

What makes a good Etsy title in 2026?

State plainly what the item is, in natural language, in 100–130 characters and no more than 15 words, with commas between phrases. Etsy's ceiling is 140 characters. Put the item in the first 45 characters, the part a phone always shows. Leave out subjective filler and "(Digital Download)", and don't repeat one tail phrase across listings.

Why 100–130 works better than filling all 140 is in our Etsy title character limit guide.

Etsy's August 2025 title guidance moved the target from keyword density to clarity. Search now weighs tags, attributes, descriptions, photos and reviews alongside the title, so the title's job is the click, not the whole ranking.

How the free title generator works

The generator does not invent words. It takes the two things you type and arranges them under the same rules ListEZ's optimizer uses, so every word in the result is one you chose and the same input always gives the same titles. That is on purpose: you know your item, and a title full of words a model guessed at is a title you have to check line by line anyway.

Step one, the item leads. Whatever you type as the item becomes the start of every title, set in Title Case. On a phone the end of a title is the first thing to go, so the item and its main feature have to sit in the first 45 characters. The result marks that stretch so you can see what a phone shopper gets. If the item alone runs past 130 characters or 15 words, it is cut to fit, at a word boundary unless a single word is that long, and you are told to shorten it.

Step two, phrases follow in your order. Each phrase is added after a comma, most important first. Before a phrase goes in, any word the title already has is taken out of it, because Etsy reads a word once and a second copy only spends characters. "Print" and "prints" count as the same word. So if your item is "Crescent Moon Necklace" and a phrase is "moon necklace gift", the phrase goes in as "Gift". A pipe or a dash between words splits phrases the way a comma does, since a title uses commas only. Other punctuation is dropped, apart from the marks that belong inside a word, as in Wabi-Sabi, Mother's, R&B or 100%. Numbers go in once as you wrote them: "8 x 10" and "8x10" are the same size, but the generator does not guess at units, so "11oz" and "11 oz" both stay. Check sizes in the result and edit them if they say the same thing twice. Little joining words such as "for" or "with" left hanging at either end are dropped too, but words like "her" stay, because "Gift for Her" is how buyers search.

Step three, the limits hold. A phrase that would take the title past 130 characters or 15 words is skipped, and the generator moves on to the next one, since a shorter phrase further down your list may still fit. The words "digital download" and "instant download" are taken out wherever you type them, because Etsy labels digital items on its own. A phrase left with only small words such as "for her" is skipped too, since no buyer searches for that alone.

Step four, up to three versions. The first title keeps your order. If sorting the phrases shortest first fits more of them in, you get that version too. The third starts from your second phrase, which is handy when you list a second, similar item and don't want two of your listings to share a title. Under each title you see its length, its word count, which phrases went in and in what form, and why any phrase was left out. If a title is shorter than 100 characters, you are told so, because there is room for another phrase a buyer would search.

The generator is free to use without an account. There is a limit on how many titles one visitor can generate in an hour, so it stays quick for everyone.

The rules it follows, and whose they are

Some of these limits are Etsy's and some are ours. The difference matters: a limit Etsy enforces stops you saving a listing, while our rules are advice built on what we see in search.

For the reasoning and worked examples, read our Etsy title guide. Your tags should then cover the searches the title leaves out; the Etsy tag strategy guide shows how.

What actually happens when you rewrite a title

We track public Etsy search results daily, so we can measure this rather than assert it. Across 528,569 re-observations of the same listing on the same keyword, a median 31 days apart:

Rank movement by whether the title changed, 528,569 observations, as of 2026-09-21
Measure Title changed Title unchanged
Observations 7,406 521,163
Mean movement 4.33 places 2.9 places
Share that improved 29.3% 27.6%

Two things follow, and the second one is the argument for using a generator that knows the rules rather than one that just produces text.

A rewrite is a real lever. Changed titles moved about 49% further than untouched ones. Listings do not drift upward on their own: rank is sticky, with 21.0% holding the exact same position over the window. Movement has to be caused.

But direction is not guaranteed. Only 29.3% of changed listings improved, against 27.6% of unchanged ones. So the content of the rewrite is what decides the outcome, which is why an unconstrained "AI title generator" that ignores the character window, the word cap and your own shop's tail phrases is as likely to cost you position as gain it.

Worth knowing: only 1.4% of listings changed their title at all during the window. If you rewrite deliberately, you are competing against a field that mostly does not. Method and sample sizes: Etsy Search Data 2026.

Observational, not a controlled test: sellers tend to rewrite listings that are already sliding, which pulls the changed group's average down.

What the free generator can't do, and ListEZ can

The free generator only knows the words you give it. It cannot tell you whether "celestial jewelry" or "moon jewelry" is the phrase more buyers type, whether hundreds of other listings already fight for it, or whether another of your own listings uses the same phrase. That takes search data and your shop's other listings, which is what ListEZ adds:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Etsy title generator free?

Yes. The generator on this page needs no account and no email, and it does not spend credits. There is an hourly limit per visitor so it stays fast for everyone.

ListEZ is in early access. Join the waitlist for free and you'll be notified when spots open; the free plan is announced at launch.

What is the ideal Etsy title length in 2026?

No more than 15 words and 100 to 130 characters. Etsy allows 140 characters and advises keeping titles under 15 words; the 100 to 130 range is ListEZ's own, long enough for five or six phrases a buyer would search and short enough to read on a phone. The generator never goes past 130 characters or 15 words.

Does the generator use AI?

No. It works from the words you give it and follows fixed rules: the item first, then your phrases in order, each word once, commas between phrases, inside the length and word limits. That makes it predictable: the same input gives the same titles, and every word in them is one you chose. ListEZ's AI rewrites start from your listing's photos and search data instead.

Why did the generator leave one of my phrases out?

The reason is shown under each title. All its words were already in the title; there was no room left inside 130 characters and 15 words; or it held only a digital-download label, which Etsy shows on its own, or small words like "for her" that no buyer searches alone; or it came after the first 15 phrases, which is as many as it reads. A phrase that shares a word with the title is kept without that word, so "Moon Necklace Gift" after "Crescent Moon Necklace" goes in as "Gift".

Will the titles publish to my Etsy shop?

Not from this page: copy the title you like and paste it into your listing on Etsy. Inside ListEZ, an approved rewrite is published to Etsy for you through the official Etsy API, and nothing changes on your shop until you approve it.
